Field’s major philanthropic bequest in his will was a $8 million gift for the Chicago Natural History Museum. The museum had been founded back in 1894 with an initial bequest from Marshall Field of $1’000’000 and a similar amount raised from other Chicago businessmen. The new building financed through Marshall Field’s endowment was completed in 1921 and the institution was consequently renamed into the Field Museum of Natural History. Lesser charitable bequests of $25’000 each went to Chicago’s Orphan Asylum, the Old People’s Home, St. Luke’s Free Hospital and the Presbyterian Hospital  ...
